Gout

Recurrent gout attacks are preventable. Lower your uric acid and end the flare cycle.

What is Gout?

Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by uric acid crystals depositing in joints — classically striking the big toe with sudden, severe pain, redness and swelling, often at night. Attacks come and go, but the underlying uric acid problem persists between them.

Gout is among the most treatable chronic conditions in medicine: sustained uric acid control stops attacks almost completely. Yet most patients only treat flares and never fix the cause — that is the gap we close.

Common Symptoms

Sudden, severe joint pain, often at night
Big toe most classically affected
Joint becomes red, hot, swollen, exquisitely tender
Attacks lasting days to two weeks
Symptom-free periods between flares
Attacks after feasts, alcohol or dehydration
Hard lumps (tophi) near joints in chronic gout
Kidney stones in some patients

Causes & Risk Factors

Gout occurs when uric acid — from the breakdown of purines — exceeds the body's ability to excrete it. Key drivers: genetics and kidney handling, fructose and sugar-sweetened drinks, alcohol (especially beer), red meat and organ meats, obesity, insulin resistance and certain medications like diuretics.

How The Cure Cabin Helps

We treat gout as the metabolic disease it is: uric-acid-lowering strategy with your doctor, a realistic dietary plan that targets the biggest levers (sugar, alcohol, portion pattern — not just 'avoid dal'), weight and insulin resistance correction, hydration, and monitoring until you're stably below target.

This page is for education, not diagnosis. Symptoms overlap between conditions — a proper medical evaluation is always the first step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need lifelong medication for gout?
If you have recurrent attacks or tophi, long-term uric-acid-lowering treatment is usually recommended — and transformative. Some early patients manage with weight loss and dietary change alone; your numbers decide.
Is gout caused by eating dal and tomatoes?
Largely a myth in the feared sense. Sugar-sweetened drinks, alcohol and excess meat matter far more than moderate lentils; tomatoes are not a proven trigger for most. We personalize instead of banning food groups.
What uric acid level should I target?
Generally below 6 mg/dL, or below 5 with tophi. Reaching and holding target level is what dissolves crystals and prevents attacks.
